Report: FBI Raids Office Of Florida Menendez Supporter [VIDEO]
The FBI raided the Florida office of an eye doctor who has contributed to the campaign of New Jersey Senator Bob Menendez and alleged by the political website Daily Caller to have provided the Democrat with free trips and underage Dominican Republic prostitutes.
The Miami Herald reports that agents at the West Palm Beach office of Dr. Salomon Melgen took away several vans worth of items from his office.
Melgen is described as a “longtime friend” of Menendez and has flown the Senator to the Dominican Republic at least once. He has made donations to Mendedez’s Senate campaigns he filed for with the Federal Election Commission that were never run including $1,000 in 1998 and a total of $9,200 in 2004 and 2005. Melgen donated $5,000 to Menendez’s run for re-election in 2012.
Menendez was appointed to the US Senate in 2006 by Jon Corzine to complete his term after he was elected Governor of New Jersey.
Melgen also donated $10,000 to the New Jersey Democratic State Committee in 2012. He has supported a number of Democrats nationwide include Al Gore, Connecticut Senator Christopher Dodd, New York Senator Charles Schumer and Debbie Wasserman Schultz according to the Federal Election Commission.
Mendendez and Melgen’s relationship first came to light last fall when the website Daily Caller posted an interview they said was with 2 prostitutes who claim to have serviced Mendndez at Melgen’s mansion in the Dominican Republic.
The allegations came to light again when Menendez was about to take over leadership of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee when a 58-page document with email between a Miami FBI agent and an an anonymous tipster. “I’m not going to respond to the fallacious allegations of your story,” Menendez told the Daily Caller on Monday.
No one associated with the campaign has been accused of wrongdoing. Benedetto Bigica faces up to five years in prison at his May 7 sentencing.
