Rand Paul Campaigns For Steve Lonegan
U.S. Sen. Rand Paul highlighted a rally for New Jersey U.S. Senate candidate Steve Lonegan.
Paul told a crowd of about 200 Friday afternoon that Lonegan will uphold the conservative libertarian principles they both share.
Paul says Lonegan will help shrink the size of government, oppose government surveillance and continue his opposition to military intervention in Syria.
Paul is urging New Jersey Republicans to help expand the party and get more people to the polls on Oct. 16. He says new people are key to building a Republican party that wins in New Jersey and around the country.
Paul slammed Lonegan's Democratic challenger, Newark Mayor Cory Booker, saying Booker has done little to help Newark and is too liberal.
Governor Chris Christie, who has exchanged words with Paul in public over fiscal policy, turned down an invitation to appear with Lonegan and Rand citing plans with his wife for her birthday. He wound up in Seaside Heights getting updates on the boardwalk fire.
