Off-duty corrections officer involved in Irvington shooting, police say
IRVINGTON — One person was shot in an incident involving a off-duty Essex County corrections officers in Essex County early Friday morning.
The Essex County Prosecutor's Office spokeswoman Katherine Carter said the shooting took place at in the 300 block of Mytrle Avenue in Irvington just off Springfield Avenue around 2:30 a.m. One person was struck and is hospitalized in stable condition with non-life threatening injuries.
Springfield Avenue was closed between Maple Avenue and Harrison Place for the investigation, according to New Jersey Fast Traffic's Bob Williams, who said that several NJ Transit buses were detoured around the closure points.
