NJ Olympians: Distance Runner Julie Culley
Distance runner Julie Culley was born in 1981 and raised in Lebanon, New Jersey.
Culley decided to stay in New Jersey for college and joined the Rutgers University track team. While attending Rutgers University, Culley set school records in the 3,000m, 5,000m and Distance Medley Relay.
During her senior year, Culley was named an All-American for cross-country. Since graduating, Culley turned pro and has started running for ASICS and the New York Athletic Club.
After struggling with injuries for the past few years, Culley returned to full health in 2011 and won first in the 2012 Olympic trials in the 5,000m.
Julie Culley will represent the United States at the Olympics for the first time in the 5,000m-distance track event.
