Archbishop John Myers said he knew nothing of the allegations against Monsignor Thomas Maloney. Myers was the bishop of Peoria, Ill., from 1990 to 2001, while Maloney was a priest in Normal, Ill.

The Diocese of Peoria is paying $1.35 million to settle a claim of abuse against Maloney, who died in 2009.

Myers says in the deposition he never heard that a woman called the diocese claiming Maloney abused her sister in the 1970s, or that a family complained that Maloney talked about sex with their 13-year-old son.

The Diocese of Peoria and Archdiocese of Newark say they don't comment on settlements.
