NEWARK, N.J. (AP) -- Federal prosecutors investigating apparently politically motivated lane closures near one of the nation's busiest bridges by aides to Republican New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie have been interviewing members of a town council and have issued a new subpoena.

A person familiar with the subpoena says it asks the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey for evidence related to claims members of Christie's administration may have engaged in retaliatory action against Jersey City's Democratic mayor, who didn't endorse Christie. The person wasn't authorized to discuss the subpoena and spoke Thursday on the condition of anonymity.

Investigators also have interviewed Fort Lee Borough Council members to learn more about conditions the week of the lane closures.

Christie has denied knowledge of the George Washington Bridge traffic scheme and appears to be moving forward with a likely presidential bid.
