Every morning, on my commute to the New Jersey 101.5 studio, I stop for a large coffee to get me going for the day. After a couple of hours and the buzz wears off, I down a large energy drink or two. It does the trick for a while, but my body eventually adapts to it. Then what do I do? I add more caffeine into the mix.

A few months ago, I just needed one coffee and I was set for the day. Then I felt the need to add an energy drink. Now, for the most part, I'm on to two energy drinks per day plus an energy bar. I'm assuming that in a couple of months from now, there will need for yet another caffeinated product.

I had the day off yesterday to celebrate America's independence, and in reality, had no need to have a cup of coffee or an energy drink to wake up. After two hours of being awake and not having any caffeine intake, I had an awful headache. It ended up being caffeine withdrawal. How do I know? I had a feeling that lack of caffeine was the cause for my headache and sure enough, when I gave in and bought an extra large coffee with an extra shot of espresso, my headache went away.

I've now become dependent on caffeine not only to get through my day but to avoid getting terrible headaches. I guess I could try to ween myself off of it, but I want to know if you have any alternative plans I could try. I'm wide open to suggestions!
