Earlier this spring I featured Medford as a great little small town to take a quick trip to heading back from the shore. If you go a little further off the beaten path and take Rt. 541 South through Medford, you'll find the absolutely idyllic town of Medford Lakes.

There's not much to it and the dining choices are sparse but it's worth the trip, especially if you bring your bike. You'll think you're in some mountain lake retreat in New England. The town is truly unique in its layout and New Jersey "piney" architecture.

If you happen to go this time of year, you'll encounter plenty of signs like the ones shown in the picture. This quaint, historic little town has something every summer called the "Canoe Carnival." One of its features is a Mr. and Miss Medford Lakes for that year chosen from teens from the town. It is a truly unique South Jersey town that is best seen this time of year or the fall and preferably on bikes.
