BRADLEY BEACH — The Coast Guard is leading the search for a missing 31-year-old swimmer in Bradley Beach.

The Coast Guard said the man was reported missing Saturday night around 7 p.m. Boats were brought in from both Shark River and Manasquan along with a helicopter from Atlantic City. A cutter continued the search overnight.

New Jersey State Police, Bradley Police Department, the Monmouth County Sheriff's Department and the Belmar Water Rescue Team are also part of the search as well.

NJ Advance Media reported the man was swept out to sea in the strong surf and rip currents.

Last weekend, a Maryland man drowned after saving his nephew from a rip current in Wildwood, prompting the mayors of Wildwood, North Wildwood and Wildwood Crest to issue a warning about swimming after hours.

“The ocean and beach are the most beautiful, environmental assets that our communities have to offer, but it does not come without risk. Swimming without lifeguards on duty can be the difference between life and death, Wildwood Crest Mayor Carl Groon said at the time.
