He wasn't successful in his presidential bid eight years ago, but John Kerry may now be getting another job he's been hoping for.

The Massachusetts senator is now considered the front-runner to replace Hillary Rodham Clinton as secretary of state. This, after U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice dropped out yesterday, to avoid a contentious confirmation fight with Republicans.

Rice made the decision after weeks of criticism from some Republicans about her initial explanation of the deadly attack on a U.S. consulate in Libya.

Official word on President Barack Obama's choices for the top posts at State and Defense could come next week. Former Republican Sen. Chuck Hagel of Nebraska is said to be in line to replace Leon Panetta at the Pentagon.
