Jackson’s Holbrook Little League shuts out NY team

BRISTOL, Conn — The rain held off as the Holbrook Little League of Jackson shut out Plainview from New York 9-0 in the second game of Little League's mid-Atlantic Tournament on Monday.

Holbrook is now at least three wins away from the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania after it trounced a team from Washington D.C. on Sunday 16-6. The "mercy rule" was involved at the top of the fourth inning in that game.

Garret Drew pitched four innings of one-hit ball, struck out five and walked none. Holbrook also got home runs from R.J. Vashey, Tai  Mann and Chris Cartnick.

"They're working on all cylinders. They're base running, they're hitting, they're pitching, You really couldn't ask for more from a team right now/ They're really to be commended for their focus and their play right now," Holbrook Little League president Tony DelVecchio, who made the trip to Bristol, said.

After Holbrook scored 25 runs in their first two games Kevin Williams of the Shore Sports Network is convinced they're on their way to Williamsport.

"This team has experienced success since they were 10-year olds and I’m not so sure that the competition they faced on a local level was not tougher than what they will see in Bristol. The lineup is stocked with home run hitters and the pitching staff is deep and talented," Williams said.

"Of course at this level anything can happen and you have to remember that every player on every team is an All-Star who does not want their summer of baseball to end just yet," Williams said.

Holbrook plays again on Wednesday afternoon against a team from either Maryland or Pennsylvania in the semi-finals.
