A Flash Flood Watch is in effect for Atlantic, Cape May, Salem and Cumberland counties until midnight as slow moving storms formed on Thursday afternoon in Maryland and Delaware and are expected to cross over into New Jersey with the potential to drop another 2-4 inches of rain

An intense storm that stalled out on Thursday morning dropped 3-5 inches of rain in a three hour period with the heaviest amounts falling around Upper Township and Ocean City.

The Press of Atlantic City on its Facebook page reported some area streets being flooded and impassable with a picture of people kayaking down a street in Ocean City. The storms also contain a lot of lightning and brought down several trees and wires according to the newspaper.

NBC 40 meteorologist Dan Skeldon reports on his Facebook page rain fell hard for several hours without letting up in some areas.

The rain can be blamed on a slow moving cold front pushing through the area that is causing downpours called “training” to develop according to ABC meteorologist Justin Ryan.
