If you just read many headlines, you wouldn't know much more than that a NJ State Trooper shot at a vehicle at the Molly Pitcher Rest Stop area on the NJ Turnpike. But if you read PAST the headline, you would become aware that the trooper was defending himself against a perpetrator.

In the course of a police officer's job, he or she may have to use deadly force. It's what they do. Too often news reporters throw out facts that lack context. The context here is that it is most likely that the suspect endangered the trooper's life or showed himself to be a threat to the general public.

Thankfully, the potential of looking bad in a news report didn't deter the trooper from carrying out his duty.
