Wendy Coker Rogers and her family are desperate to find her 16-year-old, autistic son, Adam Rogers, who hopped on a train to New York City Friday morning and hasn't been seen since.

Adam has always had a "wandering bug," and has gone missing before, Rogers said — but he's always turned up within an hour.

Rogers said she last saw Adam at about 10:30 a.m. Friday, when he said he was going in the back yard of their Point Pleasant home to straighten up. Shortly after, family members noticed he wasn't anywhere around.

They found his bicycle at the local train station, and found that he'd taken a credit card, which had been used to purchase a one-way ticket to New York City, she said. The family later got a confirmation he'd tried to make a purchase in Penn Station around 2 p.m.

Rogers said there's been no difficulty at home — no reason to run away. "This is just something he must have gotten in his head to do, and he did it," she said.

Adam is 6 feet tall, with brown hair and brown eyes. He weights about 160 pounds. Family members believe he was wearing black-and-white Converse shoes with bright shoelaces. He was likely wearing jeans, but Rogers said she wasn't sure what sort of a top he had on.

Adam's friendly to adults and young children, and more likely to interact with them than teens about his age, she said.

"The thing is, he trusts people when he shouldn't. He doesn't always connect the dots. He doesn't always understand the consequences," Rogers said.

Adam does not have a phone and is not believed to be carrying much if any money, his mother said.

Police have been notified and Adam is in the The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children database, Rogers said.

She's asking anyone who sees him to call local police, or the Point Pleasant Police Department 732-892-0062 — or to take him to a local police station. People who spot Adam can also reach the Rogers family at 732-899-1984 or 732-773-1071.
