Have Board Games Become a Forgotten Source of Fun?

According to a report, the Philadelphia Eagles are such angry birds over never winning a Super Bowl that they teamed up with Rovio Entertainment, the company that makes Angry Birds, for a new game.

In other gaming news, Detroit Lion wide receiver Calvin Johnson is on the cover of Madden NFL 13 which means if the Madden curse holds true, don’t expect much from the Lions this coming season.

Long before “Angry Birds” and “Madden”, there was NFL Electric Football. You would spend what seemed like hours arranging little plastic players on a vibrating football field using a little piece of rubber that was the ball. You would then turn it on and they would all run into each other. You did that over and over and you had a blast! You can see a picture of it here:

As popular as video games are and as much as you can play everything on an app, there will always be a place in my heart for the good old school board games. How many nights down the shore, before you were old enough to go out, were spent playing Scrabble with your friends? Or Monopoly? Will you ever forget the thrill of having someone land on your Boardwalk when you had a hotel on it? How cool was it to sink someone’s Battleship?

Board games bring families together in a way that a video game never will. When was the last time everybody gathered around the table to play a board game? What’s your favorite board game?
