A man with a gun was shot by police Tuesday afternoon inside the business school at the University of California, Berkeley.

The shooting occurred at the Haas School of Business on the east side of campus about a half-mile from where hundreds of students and anti-Wall Street protesters were demonstrating.

A university spokeswoman says officials don't know whether the suspect was part of the Occupy Cal movement.

University officials say a female staff member saw a man take a gun from a backpack. Officers found the suspect in a third-floor computer room with at least four students. UC Chancellor Robert Birgeneau said the suspect was shot when he raised the gun.

None of the students was hurt. The condition of the suspect was not immediately known.
