LONG BRANCH — Streets remained closed off mid-Monday morning following a shooting death in this Monmouth County community.

Part of Liberty Street near Joline Avenue was closed off on Monday morning following the shooting.

The Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office confirmed the shooting took place Sunday night, but has not yet provided any additional details.

It was would be the second homicide in Monmouth County in the past five days. Eleven-year-old Abigail "Abee" Smith was found dead in the back of her Keansburg apartment building on Friday 12 hours after being reported missing.

Her 18-year-old neighbor, Andreas Erazo, was charged with first-degree murder in what Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher Gramiccioni called “one of the worst crimes I’ve seen, as alleged.”
