The Passaic County Sheriff's office says it spent more than $20,000 to buy 282 guns from Paterson residents during last week's event, which was staged at a city church. Details were announced at a news conference Monday.

Officials say the guns they bought included hunting rifles, BB guns, handguns and even a World War II era Lugar 9mm pistol.

Authorities say all the weapons obtained through the program will be destroyed.
