Most of the more than 100 Stafford Township GOP club members signaled support for Mayor John Spodofora during a meeting Monday.

The Navy veteran apologized last week for misleading anyone that he served in Vietnam. Spodofora also apologized to township Republican Club President Martha Kremer who had raised questions about the mayor's military service.

Military records showed the mayor served from 1966 until 1973 as a cryptographer assigned to an office or submarine in the Caribbean and Mediterranean.

The Press of Atlantic City reports the mayor told the meeting he was undecided about seeking re-election, but voice mail and e-mail messages from supporters urged him to stay.
