A firefighter was injured and four residents were displaced when a fire severely damaged a two-family home in Milltown.

Milltown authorities say the fire broke out around 3 a.m. Sunday on the first-floor of the Cottage Avenue home. The residents — three adults and a young child, whose names were not disclosed — were able to safely flee the home, along with their pets.

A Milltown firefighter was treated at the scene for burns to his neck, which were not considered serious.

The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
