A fire ripped through a Holmdel home early Tuesday morning after a reported explosion in the under-construction house.

According to the Holmdel First Aid squad, the home was unoccupied and there were no injuries.

Holmdel Fire & Rescue Company said it was dispatched to the Hop Brook Lane home at just before 2:30 a.m. for a reported house explosion. Its Engine 78 arrived on location and found a fully involved fire, and called for mutual assistance.

The Engine 78 crew attacked the fire but all operations were defensive, it said. There was no staircase in the structure for firefighters to use and make their way through the home.

Ambulance crews from the Bayshore area stood by and provided rehabilitation to firefighters, the first aid squad said.

The reports from the emergency responders didn't say if a cause of the fire is known.
