The blaze broke out at about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Fairmount and Monroe Avenues.

Firefighters from nine companies responded. It took them about two hours to get the fast-moving fire under control.

The Star-Ledger reports more than a dozen buildings were evacuated.

Officials say two people were taken to a hospital for smoke inhalation. A firefighter suffered a shoulder injury and was also taken to a hospital.
