PRINCETON — Princeton University is investigating offensive emails sent to students and faculty over the weekend, one of which also urged a vote for Donald Trump.

Two “distinct racist” emails were sent out to an undetermined number of students, according to a statement from the university.  Investigators from the university’s office of Public Safety and the Office of Information Technology have determined the email came from servers outside the school. The school also said similar incidents had been reported at other universities.

“The University deplores these revolting messages, which are contrary to our values and our code of conduct. We will not allow these hateful actions to undermine our commitment to creating an inclusive and harassment-free community on campus,” said Michele Minter, vice provost for institutional equity and inclusion, in a statement.

The Daily Princetonian student newspaper reported one of the emails was signed using the name “John Albert Willis” and described the email as “from a probable member of a white supremacy named called White GeNOcide Project.” The email had the subject line “Vote against ‘NO CHILD LEFT WHITE’- Vote Trump!” according to the report.

The report said the email was nearly identical to a template found on the White GeNOcide website designed to lobby for a “Department of White Genocide Studies.” and included phrases such as “Diversity is code for white genocide.”

Princeton’s Office of Public Safety asked anyone who received the email to contact them at 609-258-1000.
