FOLSOM — The State Police are crediting social media with helping them positively identify a man they say was hit while walking on Route 322 earlier this month.

Police believe the man was walking on the eastbound side of the road in the right lane around 9:30 on the night of June 9. At that time he was hit by a Dodge Magnum and taken to AtlanticCare Regional Medical Center. He is listed in critical condition and is unable to communicate.

Police found a document they say could identify him as 56-year-old Edwin Ortiz of Atlantic City. Police say the address on the form is the same as the Department of Family and Community Development in Atlantic City.

Police describe the man as being Hispanic, standing approximately 5 foot, 6 inches, between the ages of 50 and 60. He has a full salt-and-pepper beard with "Edwin" tattooed on his left knuckles and another tattoo on his left bicep.

The driver of the Magnum was not injured and is not facing charges. The crash remains under investigation and the State Police is asking anyone who can help identify the man to call Trooper Steven M. Beck Jr. at 609-561-7267.
