We say goodbye to another era in television as Kyra Sedgwick leaves “The Closer."

"The Closer" Celebrates Its Final Episode

If you missed it, it will be running all week so I will not spoil it for you.

It’s getting harder and harder to find good TV detectives. I still haven’t gotten over the end of “Law and Order” and from the looks of the ratings, neither has NBC.

What made “The Closer” different was a woman in the lead role. Sedgwick, as Deputy Chief Brenda Lee Johnson, was the best “closer to hit TV since Mariano Rivera in the 2009 World Series. The series will continue with a new name “Major Crimes” and a new female lead Mary McDonnell as Capt. Sharon Raydor. The rest of the cast returns. This has been tried before without success. (see AFTERMASH”) I think this version has a much better chance.

Are the days of the “cool” cop television shows over? Has this politically correct era that we live in taken them away? Who are today’s “cool” cops?  Who were your favorites growing up?  I defy you to find someone cooler than Jim Rockford.
