Backing Goodell - As the NFLstruggles with a growing number of domestic abuse cases and there are more calls for NFL commissioner Roger Goodell to resign or be fired Governor Christie remains an unwavering ally. On Ask the Governor last night, Christie praised Goodell and said if he were an NFL owner he would vote to keep Goodell as commissioner. Last week, every woman in the New Jersey Legislature signed a letter demanding Goodell be fired or resign.

Report: Christie Cleared in Bridgegate -  NBC is reporting after nine months of intense investigation, the US Attorney's office has found no direct link between Chris Christie and the Fort Lee lane closures that erupted into Bridgegate....

A a news conference before that report aired, Christie blasted the legislative commitee still investigating Bridgegate...calling thier work politically motivated and urged them to wrap it up. Democrat John Wisneisski, head of that panel, was non-plussed vowing to press on with the probe regardless of what the U.S. Attorney has or hasn't found

Home Depot Breach - If you are not monitoring your bank and credit card accounts on a daily basis you should be. Experts have that advice after home depot confirmed data from 56-million cards were stolen in the latest big data breach. Security experts say this is the new normal and will continue to happen as hackers get better at it.

A State in Debt - Are you getting calls from debt collectors? You are certainly not alone. A new study finds a third of New Jerseyans have a debt in collections. That’s a little better than the national average but we are ahead of almost everyone else with the amount of debt we carry almost $67,000 on average.

Christie Watching Shaneen Allen Case - It's still unclear if that Philadelphia single mom, Shaneen Allen, will face jail time in Atlantic County for carrying a handgun in her purse. She has a permit for it In Pennsylvania, but not in New Jersey. Governor Christie says he's following the case very closely...

Search for a Killer - State police in northeastern Pennsylvania are searching dense, swampy woodland, trying to flush the man suspected of shooting a trooper to death and wounding another. Police say they are eliminating possible hiding places for 31-year-old Eric Frein including hunting cabins, campsites and other occasional residences in the Pocono mountains. An intense late-night search Thursday concentrated on the area around Frein's parents' home.

Mom Leaves Baby for a Drink - Police say a Brick woman left her 5-year old child in the car while she went drinking in Seaside Heights. 36-year old Cynthia Martin was arrested after leaving the bar and charged with drunk driving. It was then police found her kid in the car.

Teacher Charged - Another New Jersey teacher is charged with having sex with her students. 34-year old English teacher Nicole Dufault worked at Columbia High School in Maplewood. Prosecutors say she had sex with three 15-year old male students in the school and in her car over the last year. She has two children of her own and they have been removed from her home.

 

Jobs Picture Shows Improvement... - New Jersey's jobs picture right now is a mosaic of good and bad, depending on your perspective.

...But Not for All - More people are working in New Jersey and yet, the poverty rate is on the rise. Melville Miller of Legal Services of New Jersey says most of the state's employment gains have been in the low-paying service sector. He says the numbers could also be a result of sandy.

Prostitution Ring Broken - A New Brunswick couple is charged with running a prostitution ring staffed with illegals in at least eight brothels around the state. They had been the target on an investigation for at least two years. running their operations out of homes and businesses in New Brunswick, Trenton, Lakewood, Asbury Park and Bridgeton.

High Price of Highways-  The state is responding to new info that shows New Jersey spends $2 million per year on every mile of state-owned road yet we're ranked near the bottom for highway effectiveness.

Deer Strikes on the Rise - As fall approaches, drivers are once again reminded of the risk of vehicle/deer collisions with release of new data from an auto insurance company...

Delays over the Delaware - Emergency repairs are needed for the Walt Whitman Bridge. Several rusted out steel plates have been found on the bridge's super-structure. Engineers say there is no danger of collapse but it could lead to other damage.

Status Quo - Scotland will remain part of the United Kingdom. In a historic referendum, Scottish voters have decided 55% to 45% against independence. The decision has prevented a rupture of a 307-year union with England, and brings a huge sigh of relief to the British political establishment.

Big Dreams for Revel - A Florida real estate developer has grand plans for Atlantic City. He admits he bid on Revel out of boredom but has some radical ideas about it's future. A casino? Yes. But also a second tower to house a university. A high speed ferry and rail line to get customers in and out. And an underground passageway for tourists to use during the winter.
