Cast and Creator of ‘Sons of Anarchy’ Invade Asbury Park – Raise Over $60k for Sandy Relief [PHOTOS/VIDEO]

‘Sons of Anarchy’ fans from across the tri-state area made the trip to Asbury Park last night to spend some time with show creator, Kurt Sutter, and some members of the cast.

Kurt Sutter and his wife Katey Sagal (Gemma Teller-Morrow), Theo Rossi (Juan Carlos “Juice” Ortiz), and Kim Coates (Alexander “Tig” Trager) were in town to raise money for the Hurricane Sandy New Jersey Relief Fund and Staten Strong. The event alone raised over $40,000 before Kurt Sutter announced that Fox had contributed $20,000 more.

The first part of the night included a VIP meet and greet. This was where fans of the show had a chance to spend some time with Sutter and the cast, as well as enjoy some drinks and free food. Once the VIP meet and greet concluded, all ticket-holders were directed into the Paramount Theater to view an advanced screening of the newest episode of season six that will air Tuesday, November 13th. The episode was action packed and had the crowd cheering at various parts. It was a very cool environment to see a show like this.

An on-stage Q&A took place after the episode concluded. It was here that we learned more about the behind-the-scenes of ‘Sons of Anarchy’, how much goes into creating the hit drama series, and see how much the cast enjoys one another. Kurt Sutter is a Jersey Boy from Rahway and Theo Rossi is a native of Staten Island, who my grandfather actually taught at Monsignor Farrell high school. Both seemed beyond happy to be in Asbury Park for the event. The Q&A wrapped up with an impromptu trivia session hosted by Kurt Sutter. He gave away signed photos to fans who answered his questions correctly.

The final part of the event was a musical performance by Katey Sagal who has an album due out Tuesday. After performing three songs, she closed out the night by covering a New Jersey musician most of us are familiar with. By request of her husband, Kurt Sutter, Katey Sagal performed a version of “I’m On Fire” by Bruce Springsteen.

From start to end, this event was everything a ‘Sons of Anarchy’ could have asked for, but the amount of money raised was what really stood out to me. The die-hard fans of the show I talked to outside the venue spoke very highly of the night. Who knows, maybe Kurt Sutter will have the Sons Of Anarchy travel to New Jersey next season.
