FORT LEE — It was a busy Wednesday morning on the Hudson River crossings with an accident, suicide attempt and a reports of a baby born on the George Washington Bridge

Port Authority spokesman Joseph Pentangelo said a 38-year-old Bergen County woman went into labor in a toll lane around 7:40 a.m.

"She was escorted to Columbia Presbyterian Hospital" and was still in labor as of 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday morning.

At the same time, according to Pentangelo, a man tried to jump off the upper level of the bridge, which shut down two lanes for a time. The situation was resolved quickly.

Traffic heading for New Jersey in the Lincoln Tunnel was slow during the early part of the commute due to a fatal motorcycle crash in the north tube. A 23-year-woman who was a passenger on the motorcycle died while the 35-year-old man driving was injured.

NJ Transit was geared up to handle an extended closure and cross-honored bus tickets on its rail line, and diverted buses from the Port Authority bus terminal to the Holland Tunnel or GWB. However, the tube was reopened before 7 a.m. with delays kept to under 30 minutes.
