Just yesterday we were talking about the strange things people have eaten and one caller said he was pretty sure he had eaten cat. Both Jeff and I were a little surprised because, outside of Alf, neither one of us was familiar with anyone who had eaten cat.

Then today in the news was the story of a religious celebration (NSFW link) in Peru that features cooked cats being eaten. Of course, the animal rights activists are incensed.

At least 100 cats will be served, although it doesn't mention what religious significance the felines have. The celebration, by the way, is the feast of Santa Efigenia and Peruvians of African descent gather for the celebration. That's the first time I've ever heard of people eating cats for any reason, much less a religious one.
