Don’s Top 10 for April 8, 1978

Amazon.com
Back…back…back into time, with “The Time Machine” tonight as it stops on Saturday, April 8, 1978. It's an historic week, as you can see below.

10

"Our Love" by Natalie Cole

(#11 last week) From the album "Thankful", it spent two weeks at #1 on the national R&B chart.

9

"Sometimes When We Touch" by Dan Hill

(#6 last week) There's not a lot of in-between on this tune, most people either love it or hate it. It's on AOL's Top 100 Worst Songs Of All Time list at #40. Written by Hill with the legendary Barry Mann.

8

"Jack & Jill" by Raydio

(#8 last week) You know Ray Parker Jr. came out of this 4-person group. but Jerry Knight did, too, as in Ollie & Jerry, who made the top 10 in 1984 with "Breakin'...There's No Stoppin' Us".

7

"If I Can't Have You" by Yvonne Elliman

(#10 last week) The first of FIVE of this week's top 10 to be written by the brothers Gibb, it was the biggest hit for the Honolulu-born Elliman, who first came to fame in the play "Jesus Christ Superstar", then sang backup for Eric Clapton on "I Shot The Sheriff" before hitting with "Love Me", then this smash.

6

"Lay Down Sally" by Eric Clapton

(#9 last week) Speaking of the God of guitar, here he is with a country rocker from the album "Slowhand". One of five singles RSO Records has in this weeks top 10, making Robert Stigwood a happy man (& rich).

5

"(Love Is) Thicker Than Water" by Andy Gibb

(#5 last week) This was originally planned to be the first single from Andy's debut album, but pulled at the last second for "I Just Want To Be Your Everything".

4

"Emotion" by Samantha Sang (with The Bee Gees)

(#4 last week) Great to see what Ms. Sang looked like after all these years! BTW, her real last name IS Sang, but her given first name is Cheryl. Barry Gibb actually helpede discover hjer way back in 1969. Sometimes success is a long time coming...and fleeting.

3

"Can't Smile Without You" by Barry Manilow

(#4 last week) We have more whistling than any other station, proving it again here.....

2

"Night Fever" by The Bee Gees

(#1 last week) After one week at #1, the Bee Gees are dethroned, but I don't think they were too upset.

1

"Stayin' Alive" by The Bee Gees

(#2 last week; 9th week at #1) There aren't too many songs that have stayed at #1 for as long as this song! It was especially rare in the 60s & 70s. Amazingly, it went back to the top after slipping to #2 the week before, after a previous 8 weeks at #1.
