All the hubbub about Friday's date being 11/11/11 probably amuses a New Jersey woman for whom the date has a different kind of significance.

Anne D'Appolito was born on November 11, but in 1911, when Veteran's Day didn't yet exist on the date.

As she turns 100, D'Appolito tells Gannett News Service she doesn't feel being born on that date brought her any extra good fortune.

She was born in New York City and was raised in Long Branch. She later lived in Morristown for many years.

D'Appolito credits her longevity partly to the long walks she took regularly as a child and teen, and to being active in ballet in her 60s and 70s.
