BRANCHBURG — Police have one person in custody and are looking for another suspect connected to the discovery of a body of a woman last week on Route 22.

The body of Ashley Castro, 29, originally from Hopatcong, was found Wednesday afternoon on the grassy median of Route 22.

Police released Castro's identity on Friday, asking anyone who knew her whereabouts in the days before her death to come forward.

Her mother said Castro, who had a young daughter who she had left in their care, had battled drug abuse and suspected her death could be related to an overdose, NJ.com reported Saturday.

David DeSantos, 32, of Henryville, Pennsylvania, was charged Friday with second-degree disturbing human remains. DeSantos was found at a home in High Bridge and arrested on an outstanding warrant out of Pennsylvania, Somerset County Prosecutor Michael H. Robertson said Tuesday.

Authorities are searching for 26-year-old Nicole Barbour of Ringwood as DeSantos' alleged accomplice.

Neither DeSantos nor Barbour have been charged in the death of Castro. The cause of her death remains under investigation.

The prosecutor said DeSantos and Barbour are believed to be responsible for "unlawfully disturbing, moving and concealing" Castro's remains. It is believed the pair moved her body from a motel on Route 22 to the center median of the road near Route 28, hidden under trees and other shrubbery.

According to Robertson, Barbour is believed to have been an accomplice to DeSantos' efforts to hide the body.

Barbour is described as a white female standing 5 feet 4 inches, and weighing 106 pounds. Barbour has green eyes and blond/brown hair.

Authorities did not publicly reveal how they connected the pair to Castro.

DeSantos is being held at the Somerset County Jail awaiting a bail detention hearing.

Robertson encouraged anyone with information about the case to call the Major Crimes Unit of his office at 908-231-7100, the Branchburg Police Department at 908-526-3830, or the Somerset County Crime Stoppers' tip Line at 1-888-577-TIPS. Information can also be submitted online and all Crime Stopper information will remain confidential.
