For one thing, in the poll of VP possibles, Poll Director Patrick Murray says Democratic U.S. Senator Cory Booker would probably be a better pick for Hillary Clinton than Gov. Chris Christie would be for Donald Trump.

"Cory Booker basically would do no harm." But Murray says that they found that for most voters, more than 6 in 10 said that they would have no impact on their vote.

On the other hand, Murray says among uncommitted voters, only 15 percent say they would vote Trump if Christie was his running mate, "but 36% said that they would be less likely to vote for Donald Trump."

According to Murray, Trump pays attention to the poll results that he wants to pay attention to, "so maybe they can keep this one off of his desk."

Two names figuring prominently in the poll: Bernie Sanders would attract voters to the Democratic ticket. But Sarah Palin would hurt Trump.

Murray explains the harm revealed in the poll.

"Just 13 percent of voters say that she would make them more likely to vote for the Republican ticket. But 42 percent say that they would actually be less likely. And that number goes up to 54 percent if we look just at those voters right now who are uncommitted. So she would not be a good pick for Donald Trump."
