Every New Year's Eve, I listen to a radio program that counts down the best/hottest songs of the year.

My prediction for this year's #1 is Adele's "Rolling in the Deep." It slowly gained ground in early March, until it was eventually the only song we were allowed to hear for months. The break-up song gave Adele the fame she deserved; she did have some exposure beforehand, but now she's a household name. Isn't that crazy - that someone can have that effect in less than a year? Justin Bieber also had that talent.

I have a sneaking suspicion I may be correct with my prediction because of a fact I recently read. Adele's song sold more copies in one calendar year than any other song in digital history.

Even though I vote for "Rolling in the Deep" as the biggest song of 2011, that doesn't mean it was my favorite top 40 hit of the year, which is what this article's headline is asking for.

The top 40 song that earns my top spot is "It Will Rain" by Bruno Mars, which is still getting some adequate radio play and appearing on nightly countdowns. It hit the airwaves to coincide with the theatrical release of "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn: Part 1."

What is your favorite song of 2011?
