Watch out for wind: Gale warning in effect for parts of NJ
The National Weather Service says a gale warning is in effect until early this afternoon for parts of New Jersey and New York.
The weather service said Saturday that the warning is in effect until 1 p.m. and includes the area around Sandy Hook, New Jersey, and Fire Island Inlet, New York.
Winds gusts of up to 35 knots with seas of 5 to 9 feet on the ocean are possible and 4 to 6 feet on Eastern Long Island Sound.
The warning indicates that sustained winds or frequent gusts of 34 to 47 knots are expected or occurring.
The service says operating a vessel in these conditions requires experience and proper equipment.
