Flames engulf at least a dozen businesses in Ferguson, Missouri this morning.  Gunfire kept firefighters at bay after protests over the decision not to indict a white police officer in the death of black teen Michael Brown incited rioting.

 

The violence quickly escalated to a level much worse than in the days following the shooting.  The police chief saying unless they brought in thousands of police officers, there was nothing to prevent people intent on destroying things.

Why didn't the grand jury return an indictment?

Officer Darren Wilson told the grand jury that when he saw Brown and a friend walking in the street, Brown fit the description of a robbery suspect. He says when he confronted Brown, the 18-year-old hit him in the face and tried to grab his gun.

With a nor'easter on the way, this would not be the first time we had a white Thanksgiving.

Police have charged three more Ramapo College students in connection with a sexual assault at a frat party.  The three are all 18 and all charged with helping two other guys take advantage of a drunk girl at the party.  The victim says she woke up naked in a dorm room and went to the hospital.

Data from the U.S. Bureau of labor statistics shows job growth in Jersey over the past year was the second worst of any state in the nation. Only Alaska, which actually lost jobs during that time, was worse.

As the state prepares to pull the plug on red light cameras next month, there are some mayors who wont let it go.  Assemblyman Declan O'Scanlon has been the most vocal critic of the cameras and linden was his latest stop to show they are cash machines, not safety devices.  He and the mayor exchanged some spirited words over the issue.

The holidays don't seem as cherished these days, especially when it comes to actually having a day off from work. Nearly half of U.S. employees in a new survey say there's a chance they'll be working on Thanksgiving, Christmas, or New Years Day.

The famed Columbus Market will be open this week for outdoor merchants following last weeks massive fire that destroyed the main building.  The remaining buildings could open this week but it's not certain.  Meanwhile, owners of the family businesses that lost everything are trying to rebuild.

A proposed windmill power project off the Atlantic City coast is on hold again after being rejected by the state board of public utilities for a third time.

Do you pay any attention to the calorie count on restaurant menus?  The federal government is about to require more restaurants to print it for you as a way of combating obesity.  And it's not just food, calorie counts will be required for alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.

A razor thin margin bounces a longtime shore mayor.  It's taken this long to recount and certify elections results in Eatontown, Monmouth County. Mayor Gerald Tarantolo lost by two votes.  Republican councilman Dennis Connolly will take over in January.

A 'pledge of allegiance' lawsuit in Monmouth County catches the eye of a Jersey lawmaker and he has legislation that could put a stop to these types of cases.

31 people have been arrested and 510 bricks of heroin, 9 vehicles, 8 pounds of pot and 70 thousand dollars in cash has been seized during "operation joint effort.” The operation was a 3-month investigation that featured 26 law enforcement agencies from 5 counties, including the state police, all working together.

New Jersey based Merck is now testing an Ebola vaccine.  Merck is the world's largest vaccine maker and bought the prototype from a small Iowa lab.  Initial patient testing has been favorable.

A judge in New York ruled Monday that a maple shade suspect's confession can be used in a notorious missing child case.
