U.S. Senators Tour NJ Sandy Damage, Pledge Support
A group of Democratic U.S. senators from around the country is touring storm-ravaged parts of the New Jersey shore with a pledge to support the expensive cost of rebuilding from Superstorm Sandy.
The senators also say they have encountered support from Republican senators as billions in funding is sought from Congress.
New Jersey Democrat Robert Menendez led Monday's tour, which included a visit to the Holgate section of Long Beach Township.
Senators Mary Landrieu of Louisiana, Debbie Stabenow of Michigan and Jon Tester of Montana joined Menendez. David Vitter, Republican of Louisiana, was scheduled to attend but couldn't make it due to bad weather.
The tour comes days after President Barack Obama asked Congress for $60.4 billion in federal aid for New Jersey, New York and other states hit by Sandy.
