The parents of the Rutgers University student whose roommate allegedly used a webcam to spy on his intimate encounter with a man say their son told them he was gay about three weeks before his suicide.

Joe and Jane Clementi of Ridgewood spoke to People magazine about their son, Tyler, in an interview that will appear in Friday's issue.

Their son's suicide focused worldwide attention on the bullying young gays.

The parents spoke as they launch a foundation in their son's name to address acceptance of gay youth and suicide prevention. Jane Clementi tells the magazine that Tyler told her tearfully just before he went to Rutgers that he'd known since middle school that he was gay.
