A subcommittee of the Lafayette Yard Community Development Corporation has voted to contract with the Parsippany-based Wyndham and Marshall Hotels to take over management of the Trenton Marriott and re-name the hotel according to the Times of Trenton.

Marshall is a Maryland-based hotel management company that, Vice President Joyce Kersey tells the Times, has a "much stronger sales force that can get into the business and bring that business back into Trenton" and take advantage of business from state government.

Board member John Hatch said Wyndham has a better understanding of the Trenton market.

Any agreement to take over management of the hotel from The Waterford Hotel Group will require a renovation of the 197-room, 10-year old facility.

Trenton is still spending $1.4 million a year to pay off the costs of building the hotel located just blocks from the Statehouse.
