The Toms River Regional School District, encompassing 18 schools with nearly 17,000 students, is hosting two public forums this week. The first takes place this Thursday in the Auditorium at Toms River High School North starting at 7 p.m. The second, will take place on Saturday, June 15th, at the Toms River High School East Cafeteria starting at 9:30 a.m.

School Board President Ben Giovine says the forums are being hosted by the executive search firm they hired. He says they wanted to make sure the community has input into the qualities they’d like to see.

“So we can then take that input and when we come up with a criteria of who we’re looking for we can select the best candidate to lead our district.”

Giovine says they’re expecting to hear feedback from folks who want to see an increase of student achievement, and he says they’re also expecting to hear some comments related to Superstorm Sandy and the way the school district is planning to move forward.

The school district is asking folks who plan to attend to RSVP and indicated which meeting you will attend. For more information, please visit the district website or call 732-818-8536 from 8 p.m. – 4 a.m. Monday – Friday.

The school district is trying to distance itself from the corruption scandal that led to the 11 year federal prison sentence of former School District Superintendent Mike Ritacco in September 2012. Superintendent Frank Roselli announced his retirement earlier this year after suffering a heart attack.
