Toddler Dies After Being Struck in Lakewood
A toddler has died in Lakewood after being struck by a car.
The Lakewood Scoop reports the girl was walking with a parent and a sibling as a van turning into a driveway knocked her down around 2 p.m Thursday afternoon.
The van driver was picking up a child at the home on 11th Street according to the Asbury Park Press and helped get the child out from under the van.
"It's a very tragic accident at this point. Too many unanswered questions as to where the girl was when she was hit," Lakewood police accident investigator David Silberstein told the Press.
The child was in traumatic arrest as rescue crews and police arrived at the incident on 11th Street. The child was taken to Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus where she died.
This is the second time this week a toddler was struck by a vehicle. On Monday, 23-year-old Christina Rodqiguez ran over her 1-year-old daughter as she backed out of a driveway in Egg Harbor Township and the girl ran into the path of the car. She was pinned under the car and airlifted to a hospital in Camden.
