This Day In Music History
1967 – Cass Elliot from The Mamas And The Papas spends the night in jail after being accused of stealing from a hotel in London. An appearance on TV and concert had to be cancelled as a result.
1975 – John Lennon was finally given his ‘Green Card’ at a hearing in New York which overturned previous efforts by the Government to deport him. His 1968 arrest in Britain for possession of marijuana was the issue preventing his citizenship, but a three judge panel of the US Court of Appeals ruled that this was “contrary to US ideas of due process and was invalid as a means of banishing the former Beatle from America.”
1982 – Jimmy Page is given a 12-month conditional discharge after being found guilty of possessing cocaine.
2002 – Mick Jagger learns his old elementary school will be named after him, as he donates a large some of money to pay for a music director and instruments.
