My grandson will not be going to the Electric Daisy Carnival this weekend.

Right now his taste runs to the Wiggles, and from what I understand via someone’s post on Facebook is that they might even be breaking up.

Poor kid!

Only 4 months old, and already about to feel a sense of loss.

But his mom is indoctrinating him as a fan of disco…even though she’s been a promoter for the newer version of disco known as EDM.

Here she is singing some of the Donna Summer discography to him.

As far as the EDM goes,
some 100,000 people are expected to take over MetLife Stadium all weekend, as the touring techno mega-fest, or EDM as it’s known today…Electric Daisy Carnival makes its Jersey debut.

Rawley Bornstein, an MTV music and talent programmer….says, "This is the new rock 'n' roll," "Just as parents might be going to see Bruce Springsteen as a working man's hero who sings about factories, a new generation of fans are going to EDM shows where a similar sentiment is expressed in a different way.

These are just some of the names there… Avicii, Armin van Buuren, Fatboy Slim, Bassnectar, Calvin Harris, Afrojack and Chase and Status top the bill. Other heavyweights include Richie Hawtin, Carl Cox, John Digweed, Sebastian Ingrosso, ATB, Alesso Boris, and DJ sets by Pendulum and Nero.

Parents might find the trend concerning — EDM concerts have been linked to drug arrests and underage drinking — but music biz executives are embracing the genre.
It’s an area of growth in a flat market, they say, creating jobs and establishing a new consumer base.

Bornstein says electronic music has the same rebellious spirit as other genres like punk and hip-hop. The idea of young people rallying around music is a tradition that dates back to Woodstock, she says.

So we’ve come full circle. We used to call it disco, then it became dance, freestyle, house, techno, and now it’s EDM…has a nice ring to it.

The singer (such as Donna Summer) is no longer the “star”. That honor goes to the producer. Think David Guetta, DJ Pauly D, and Swedish House Mafia, who recently sold out MSG.

And even though Donna just left us yesterday, it seems that the days of the disco diva were long gone before that.

RIP Donna.

Bring on EDM…doctors prescribe it 2 to 1 over the leading laxative!
