Testimony Concludes in Trenton Mayor’s Trial

Testimony has concluded in the corruption trial of Trenton Mayor Tony Mack.

Mack faces extortion and bribery charges for allegedly soliciting and accepting payments in connection with a downtown parking garage deal. The deal was fictitious, and the people offering the alleged bribes were government informants.

The Times of Trenton reports (http://bit.ly/1hSFitx ) that testimony concluded Thursday after the defense called Mack's friend Terry Birchenough as its only witness.

Prosecutors announced earlier on Thursday that they had finished making their case.

The jury has been sent home until Monday, when closing arguments are expected to begin.

Mack has remained in office since his arrest in late 2012.

Mack's brother, Ralphiel, also is on trial.

A third defendant has pleaded guilty to two extortion-related counts and unrelated drug and weapons charges.
