Truce unravels: 35 Palestinians killed, Israeli officer missing

GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip (AP) -- A Gaza cease-fire quickly unraveled Friday as violence erupted in and around the southern town of Rafah, with at least 35 Palestinians killed by Israeli shelling and the military saying an infantry officer may have been captured.

Israel’s Netanyahu vows to destroy Hamas tunnels

JERUSALEM (AP) -- Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Thursday that Israel will destroy Hamas' tunnel network in the Gaza Strip designed for deadly attacks inside Israel, "with or without a cease-fire," as the military called up another 16,000 reservists to pursue its campaign against Palestinian militants in the densely-populated territory.

UN official: Both sides committing war crimes in Gaza fighting

GENEVA (AP) -- The U.N.'s top human rights official accused both Israel and Hamas militants of committing war crimes in the latest Gaza war, but reserved her harshest words for the Israeli government, which she said Thursday was deliberately defying international law.

Israel says it’s extending Gaza truce for 24 hours

Kerry cites progress in Gaza cease-fire talks

JERUSALEM (AP) -- Offering the first glimmer of hope for a Gaza cease-fire, the United States on Wednesday said negotiations to broker a truce between Israel and Hamas militants are making some progress even if an end to more than two weeks of bloodshed is nowhere near.
