By Jeff Deminski: While many people have been up in arms about the attempted ban on large soft drinks, maybe there is some use for this law after all in a different form.

The mayors of New York, Newark and 16 other cities are reviving a push against letting food stamps be used to buy soda and other sugary drinks.

Interesting. According to this story, Newark Mayor Cory Booker will be meeting the challenge of a Twitter follower and abide by the SNAP program for a week. The challenge came about over an exchange he had with the follower identified as @MWadeNC, saying, in so many words, that our government’s investment in such things as schools and nutrition, as opposed to police and prisons, would reap wealth

I hope never to have to go on food stamps. However, the program has been a lifeline for many here in New Jersey and across the nation. For others though, it’s become a way of life, and one can’t deny that there have been abuses of the program. With the federal deficit being as high as it is, so cuts are in order.
