We're feeling worse about the economy. Consumer confidence unexpectedly dipped to its lowest level in nine months. The Conference Board says its index of consumer attitudes fell to 60.6 from a downwardly revised 65.4 in July. Economists had expected an increase to 66.
There's some good economic news - the Labor Department reports weekly unemployment benefit applications dropped by 14 thousand, to a seasonally adjusted 374,000, the fewest since the week of May 19th.
Consumer confidence shows up a bit weaker this month than it was in February, but overall, shoppers still feel a lot better about the economy now than they did a few years ago.
