Authorities are investigating a "suspicious death" at the New Jersey home of a retired New York firefighter, New Jersey Advance Media reports.

According to the report, the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office said Long Beach Island Police responded to the home Monday afternoon to check on a man who had not been heard from in two days. Inside, they found the body of Richard P. Doody, who was pronounced dead Monday evening, the report said.

Tuesday, investigators remained on scene. The Ocean County Prosecutor's Office told New Jersey Advance Media authorities were continuing to interview people and canvas the area. The Ocean County Prosecutor's Office Major Crime and Homicide unit, Ocean County Sheriff's Office Crime Scene Investigation unit, the Ocean County Medical Examiner's Office and the Long Beach Township Police Department were handling the investigation, the report aid.
