NEWARK — Hours after police tok to social media asking for help identifying the suspect of a possible abduction, authorities say the incident was actually just an argument between two people.

According to NJ.com, the woman involved in the incident saw the reports online and contacted police to let them know that she and her boyfriend were arguing after he showed up late to pick her up from Penn Station. The couple made up and the man lifted the woman into the vehicle, Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose said in the article.

In a statement Saturday night, police said Newark officers initially responded to Mulberry Street and Edison Place at about 9:21 a.m. in response to a report of a man who allegedly forced a woman to get into a vehicle, before driving way.

Police say the woman had been walking south on Mulberry Street when a van traveling north on the same street stopped near Edison Place. According to police, the woman spoke to the male driver, but when she attempted to walk away, he exited the van and told her to get into the vehicle. The man then allegedly pushed the woman into the van on the passenger side, then got back into the drivers seat, made a U-turn and fled onto McCarter Highway, police said in a statement.

Ambrose told NJ.com that the investigation into the incident is now closed.
