Students charged in Teaneck school prank face court

TEANECK (AP) -- Some of the 63 students charged after a prank at a north Jersey high school are facing court dates this summer.

Two dozen 18-year-olds from Teaneck High School are facing disorderly persons charges and are expected to begin appearing before a municipal judge next Wednesday.

Municipal Prosecutor Deborah Veach tells The Record (http://bit.ly/TOhMXX ) newspaper 39 seniors charged as juveniles are being handled by a counselor in the police department.

The county prosecutor downgraded charges and has said the students are eligible for programs that allow first-time offenders to walk away without criminal records.

Police have said the May 1 prank caused widespread vandalism in the school that included graffiti and overturned desks and chairs.
